Enjoy the Autumn Rides

2015 is winding down. Most folks just see the end of our riding season fast approaching.

Crane-03
2010 Missouri Rally in Crane, MO

But it’s not over yet!

In fact, this might be the best time of the year to go on that long ride you’ve been putting off.

The Rally Challenge

The decision was made last week to cancel the 2015 Indian Nations Rally. Instead, the club will focus on smaller events this summer and attend the Central Oklahoma (OKC) chapter’s campout in Talihina this September. Continue reading The Rally Challenge

Next Meeting

Martin Regional Library, 2601 S Garnett at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9.   Somewhere in the bowels of the conference rooms.

I need to get input on what is necessary in a rally grounds.  I have five rounded up, each one is not perfect.  Some may be dismissed rather quickly, but I’d druther not make the decision to upset everyone myself.

Jeff Hill and I did a ride to the Kansas Land Of Oz rally and talked about planning a long weekend to ride to Arkansas, stay in a park, and explore the local roads by day and sit around the fire by night.  Wanna go?

Last Meeting

Key personnel who I wished to discuss the rally with did not show.  Otherwise, I did learn what images I can put on my computer and then use the overhead that shows a totally washed out image.  Fortunately the pictures of the sites were projected well.

Journeys

Love’s Lookout Picnic – East Texas BMW Motorcycle Club – May 16

Got the RT ready, packed it lite, just a one day jaunt down and back and was planning to leave by 6, but didn’t make it until 6:15.  I looked at the clock rolling up the street from the house.  The weather wasn’t promising, as a full overcast, moisture in the air, but not falling and about 62-64 degrees.  Where I really made time was passing I-40 going south toward Paris by being on the Indian Nation Turnpike.  All of Oklahoma’s pikes have a BMW rated speed limit of 75.

Tuesday meeting – May 12, 7 p.m. Martin Regional, 2601 S Garnett.

Anyone wish to dine before the meeting? 6:00 pm at Casa San Marcos, 2170 S Garnett – just north of the car wash. If you speak Spanish, it may help. I just point. They know English better than I know a foreign language. Good food.

The subject this month is the location of our rally and promoting our club… by actually riding! Check out the calendar, I’ve stuck 4 mini-rides to 4 restaurants this month. Continue reading 2015 May Newsletter

Next Meeting
Martin Regional Library
– 2601 S Garnett Rd – Tuesday, October 14th, 7 p.m.

Three major items to cover this meeting.

Synopsis and review of the annual Indian Nations Rally held at Gobbler’s Ridge in Greenleaf State park.  How was it preceived?  What did we do right?  What did we do wrong?  What can be done to fix any issues?  I expect a lot of discussion.

Looking into the club’s ByLaws in choosing next year’s officers.

Starting a search for this year’s Christmas dinner.  Usually paid for by the club’s coffers.

Demo of a Therm-a-Rest LuxuryLite Cot – No more sleeping on the ground!

Breakfast Rides

The club’s first Breakfast ride was meeting at QuikTrip at US-75 and OK-20 north of Tulsa for a leisurely ride to Barnsdall to a small cafe there.  Jeff Hill, Gary Sharp, myself and Dave Carter showed.  A separate write up of this trip was done and distributed.  We had a good time swapping stories and comparing notes.

The next was meeting at QuikTrip on 49th West Ave before the Turner Turnpike.  Just Gary Sharp and I.  Our plan was to ride to the dealership in OKC for their 4th Saturday Waffle Breakfast.  With only the two of us, weather predicting in the upper 90s in the afternoon, and me not quite conditioned to summer in Oklahoma yet, I suggested a shorter, alternate plan, and Gary took us down to Sugar britches Cafe and Bakery where it wasn’t too busy, they did a better job with the eggs than Barnsdall, right at the corner of OK-97 & OK-66, and the old stamped tin ceiling from buildings approaching 100 years old.  Good food, not too busy.  I spoke too soon, as business started picking up as we were leaving.

Next was a ride to I forget.  Met at Kum & Go at Skelly and Yale after a brief rain buzzed through town.  The sky was nearly clear and the rain had cooled it comfortably off.  No one showed.  We were going someplace around Tenkiller, was the plan.

‘Twas the Week Before Rally…

Next weekend we will gather once again at Greenleaf State Park and revel in the magic of scenic roads, tall trees, good friends… and MOTORCYCLES!

2014 Rally ShirtPreparations for the 2014 edition of the Indian Nations Rally are buzzing along. The weather is looking great, registrations are through the roof, the T-shirts are awesome and the menu looks so good I’m already hungry. Continue reading ‘Twas the Week Before Rally…

A number of upcoming events, including final preparations and countdown to our Indian Nations Rally, Sept. 26-28.

Last Meeting
Show and Tell this month was a set of Italian boots made for industrial use, Police, Fire Fighters, Forest Firefighters, etc.  Rugged looking things, made by Jell-O, er, Jolly. Apparently only one importer of www.motoport.com.  My one-size-too-small BMW boots were making my 2nd toe on my right foot complain about the room.  At that time, I pulled up my foot to rub the spot through my athletic shoe and someone mentioned they didn’t need to see.  Sorry folks, I wasn’t going there.  The new boots don’t have that problem, with the left foot having excess room for guests to join in.  I need to find a fellow with my size feet, on the opposite sides.
