The Oklahoma City chapter of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America will be hosting a campout later this month at Talimena State Park.
If you’re not familiar with the area… well, you should be. The Talimena is Oklahoma’s only scenic byway and runs between Talihina, Oklahoma and Mena, Arkansas. Had reservations for the normal period of Friday – Sunday morning and read they started the activities Thursday, 4/14. Why not! Dave Carter accompanied me over via the back roads. Heard of inclement weather pending, but pushed on in via Noel and the fun roads. One of those intersections, I lost Dave. He high-sided it on the gravel on a T intersection and several people stopped to get him back up and running before I got there. He injured his ankle and couldn’t support himself when stopped to put down the side stand. Thus the remainder of the weekend was to get from A to B without stopping. Last year the Natural State Rally was called off due to heavy rains. The campground on the Arkansas River was under water for several weeks in 2015, so organizers cancelled the event. This year the casual gathering near Morrillton, Arkansas returns. Occurring at a Corps of Engineers park next to Lock and Dam #9, on the Northeast side of the Arkansas River, south of Morrillton.
