Gateway to the Talimena Drive - BMW R1150R

2017 Oklahoma BMW Rally

The Oklahoma City chapter of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America will be hosting a campout later this month at Talimena State Park.

If you’re not familiar with the area… well, you should be. The Talimena is Oklahoma’s only scenic byway and runs between Talihina, Oklahoma and Mena, Arkansas. It crosses the Winding Stair Mountains and offers sweeping vistas, twisty bits and some beautiful scenic turnouts to absorb the local foliage.

The event is billed as a casual campout and the only cost is the park’s camping fee. A ride is planned for Saturday along the scenic Talimena Drive to the Queen Wilhemina Lodge for lunch.

In case lunching at the lodge isn’t your cup of tea…
Consider a Saturday ride to the Chickasaw Recreation Area for the Lone Star Riders’ annual cookout. It’s happening simultaneously in Sulphur, OK (about 150 miles from Talihina). Burgers and brats are served up at noon and if you brought a side dish no one would be upset. It will be happening in  the Bromide Pavilion– the name alone is worth the trip!
