BMW Celebrates 100 Years, Featured Marque at Monterey Historics
In March a year-long celebration began to honor the first century of BMW, and a look forward to the Next 100 Years.
The annual Monterey Car Week is also a celebration. It’s an annual celebration of historic machinery, featuring the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, auctions and the vintage racing at Laguna Seca Raceway. For 2016 the featured marque at the festival will be BMW, in honor of the company’s 100th anniversary.
BMW began life as an aircraft engine manufacturer in 1916. Motorcycle production began in 1923, and automobiles followed in 1928. So it’s a safe bet, even though the Monterey weekend is primarily a car-oriented event, there will be a strong BMW motorcycle presence too!
In fact, the BMW Riders Association (BMW-RA) will hold their annual rally during the Monterey historics week. Their tentative dates are August 19-28. The events will be held in conjunction with BMW Car Club of America (BMWCCA) events, the Pebble Beach Concours and the famous vintage car races at Laguna Seca. For more details visit www.bmwra.org.
Mark your calendar because it looks like a great week for roundel fanatics– no matter whether you prefer to ride or drive your BMW.
