Arkansas Campout Returns for 2016

Last year the Natural State Rally was called off due to heavy rains. The campground on the Arkansas River was under water for several weeks in 2015, so organizers cancelled the event. This year the casual gathering near Morrillton, Arkansas returns. Occurring at a Corps of Engineers park next to Lock and Dam #9, on the Northeast side of the Arkansas River, south of Morrillton.

This is a minimal rally, the restrooms are nearby, showers just a bit further, food is a bit more than coffee and doughnuts in the morning at the shelter and sometimes a shared stew. A number of us head up the 30 miles to Petit Jean Lodge for breakfast, and head out from there for the fabulous roads which we go to Arkansas for. North or South of I-40, it’s a blast. Where else can you get pictures like this?

There are about 15-20 tents set up and the biggest noise is the barge shimmying up to the lock across the river. It is not far from Tulsa and early in the season to test out the new gear purchased over the winter.  If I remember there are several airheads that attend. Evening is quiet around the fire.

I think the mosquitos were left on the other side of the river at the old campgrounds.
